Anita Smith

In 2011, Ronnie, Anita and their young son moved to Libya shortly after the overthrow of the country’s dictator, Muammar Qadhafi. Ronnie worked as a high school chemistry teacher in Benghazi, where his students nicknamed him “Libya’s best friend.” But in December 2013, Ronnie was shot to death during a late-morning jog. Anita received worldwide media attention after writing a letter forgiving her husband’s attackers.
