Gracia Burnham
Held captive in the Philippines
For 17 years, Martin and Gracia Burnham served as missionaries in the Philippines with New Tribes Mission (now called Ethnos360). In 2001, they were taken hostage by militant Muslims and held captive for 376 days. Martin, an experienced jungle pilot who delivered mail and supplies in the region, was killed during a rescue attempt, while Gracia survived and was rescued from her captors. Today, Gracia travels widely to speak about her time in captivity. She is a New York Times bestselling author of two books, In the Presence of My Enemies and To Fly Again.
