On June 19, 2009 there was an intense discussion between Asia, a Christian wife and mother, and her female coworkers about their faith. The Muslim women told Asia about Islam, and Asia responded by telling the Muslim women that Jesus is alive. "Our Christ sacrificed His life on the cross for our sins...Our Christ is alive." she told them. Upon hearing this response, the Muslim women became angry and began to beat Asia. Police imprisoned her on charges of blasphemy. After a lengthy trial, on Nov. 8, 2010, Asia was sentenced to death but in July 2015, a three-member panel of judges suspended the decision of previous courts and stopped implementation of the death penalty. The next stop is complete review by the Supreme Court, who will make a decision on the case. She remains at Multan jail. Ashiq, Asia's husband, reports, "Whenever I go visit, she requests prayer from the brothers and sisters..."
